LAST LESSONS (Thursday 2nd, Fri 3rd, Monday 6th Dec)

You should be doing task 7:

Task 7

Make a new page in your blog, with the following sections:
  • Pictures of your website
Open your website in internet explorer, and take screen shots of each of your pages. Post them on the page in your blog.
  • Stakeholder feedback
Get each stakeholder to view your completed website, and provide in-depth and detailed feedback. It might be a good idea to build this into your blog as a survey, so you can get specific information and a clear record of answers.

  • Evaluation
Evaluate your website in a new page on your blog.

Consider:
- The brief
- Key Factors
- Specifications
- Principles of good web design
- Overall impact and effectiveness

  • Mark scheme
Find the file in the T-drive called 'Miss Daniels Website Design Mark Scheme'.

Save this file, along with your SharePoint file in your project folder. Mark you project using this scheme.

In your page in your blog copy and paste the mark page onto your blog page.

TIME......

You guys start your junior exams next Friday. When you finish exams, there will be a few days on normal class timetable, before you have junior activities.

You should be aiming to have:
  • Tasks 1-6 FINISHED (including your finished SharePoint file) before you start Junior exams
  • Task 7 (evaluation and mark scheme) finished before you start junior activities
If you are not on track to do this then you should be working on all written / blog based tasks in your own, time, and working on your SharePoint file in class.

TASK 6

So you are meant to be up to the task where you actually make your website with SharePoint Designer.

Remember if you are behind, you need to be completing written tasks in you own time (e.g. homework) so you can use lesson time to learn how to use SharePoint.

It's not the easiest software to learn to use, and its part of the project that you learn how to figure it out, so look for help sites / videos, and ask the students around you how to do things.

End of lesson posts

Remember you need to write each lesson what work you have completed , but also evaluate the work.

Here are some examples of how you might do this (DONT just copy and paste, I will know!)
  • "Today I didnt complete as much of the task as I should have. Its meant to be finished by today, so I'm going to have to finish it at home to catch up"
  • " I finished task three - I think that the analysis of other sites was done really well because I found 10 other websites and evaluated all of them, but I might need to add some more detail to the second section - I will ask the teacher"
  • " Today I worked on task 4. I think my design layout ideas are really good, and the stakeholder feedback I got was really useful. I'm choosing idea three, but going to make a few changes like my stakeholders said"

Task 3 / stakeholders

Hi Guys,

Here are some general issues with your work:

Task 3 part 1
- when analysing other similar websites you need to have at least 5 sites, and talk about WHY its successfull of not e.g. layout, design, speed......

Task 3 part 2
- Lots of people are not listing all the stuff they are going to use in their actual sites - just cut and paste of put links. This should be everything you need to make your actual site

Stakeholders
Think about using the blog features to include electronic feedback from stakeholders - it could be a comment on a post or an inbuilt survey (http://www.surveymonkey.com/)

Comments

I'm putting a lot of time into checking everyones blogs, and commenting on things that you need to improve, so make sure you actually make the effort to read my comments and add to / change anything that is necessary.
Remember that you are free to delete / not publish my comments if your dont want others to see them.
Also you can comment on each others work if you think that you can help!

It is better to produce high quality work than speed through and finish early, but produce crappy work :-)

Problems with work....

Hi Guys,

heres the main things that are not being done well at the moment:

END OF LESSON POSTS
These should evaluate the work you have done that lesson, not just say what you did.

TASK 1
  • 'Discuss' means excellence - you need to write quite alot, not just one sentance.... put more detail into your answers
  • Cut and paste - if you are cutting and pasting lots you need to check that when you publish it it all looks ok, and you can read it all - some peoples text is all different colours / sizes / fonts.
TASK 2
  • Brainstorm - you need to list actual ideas for your new website you make using SharePoint Designer e.g. a list
  • Key factors / specifications - you need to put more detail into the discussion of WHY these are important, and the IMPLICATION e.g. what will happen if you dont consider it.

Stats

Have you found the 'Stats' part of your blog? You can see how many people have visited your blog, and where in the world they were.

When I look at the stats for this blog, you can see what time of the day I had each year 10 class, as there is a big spike in the number of people viewing this blog... Pretty cool!

Dates on your posts.....

Take a look at the dates on your last post - does it look right to you?

When I looked at mine I found that they were a day behind.

To fix this you need to go into settings, and change the time to Auckland time, and this will fix your blog.

TASK 1 - Finished this Friday

Remember.... according to the timeline on the right, you are meant to have task 1 FINISHED this Friday!

And remember you need to make a post on your home page EVERY lesson with what you got done.... so DONT edit the last one, make a new post every day.

Wednesday, October 13, 2010

Trouble with Task 1?

Remember that task 1 needs to be on a new page, and make sure you make it look good - this is how you are presenting the work for this project!
Try to use bold, underlines or different coloured fonts to make it clear what words you are defining or questions you are answering, and what the definitions / answers are.

Term 4 year 10 iTec - Website design project

Hi Guys,

Term four you will be completing another major project. This term you will be designing a website, using SharePoint Designer.

Like with your logo design project, you must complete written tasks and keep a record of your work each period.

This project we are going to do thins in a slightly different way.... Using a blog. A blog is a website log, which really means its a website that looks kind of like a diary - chronologically ordered posts.

This blog will be your reference point throughout the project, where I will post help, and information about all the tasks you need to complete.

You need to:
  • Sign up and create a blogger account
  • Create a new blog - the aim of this blog is to be a record of your iTec Website design project, so the title should have something about your name (first name is fine) and website design project.
  • Start to have a play with the layout / design etc.
  • Become a follower of this blog, and leave your name and a link to your blog as a comment at the end of this post.

Remember EVERYTHING on your blog will be assessed, so keep it professional and on task, as well as appropriate to school!

Good luck!

Miss Daniel
